George Anthony Morgan Taylor GC (30 October 1917 – 1972), known as Tony Taylor,[1] was awarded the George Cross for gallantry.[2] His award was published in the London Gazette on 22 April 1952. He was employed by the Commonwealth Bureau of Mineral Resources at the time as a Vulcanologist and received his award for his work in averting a volcanic danger from January to April 1951 at Mount Lamington in Papua. He was born in Moree, New South Wales and served with the Australian forces during World War II.
